Research Assistant/Associate in Molecular/Network Ecology - D193911R

Salary: £27,831 - £29,515 per annum (PhD Near Completion - Assistant Level)
£30,395 - £39,610 per annum (PhD Awarded - Associate Level)

Closing Date: 20 March 2019

We are looking for an outstanding post-doctoral researcher with expertise in molecular and/or network ecology to work on EcoStack - an exciting EU H2020-funded project. EcoStack will develop ecologically, economically and socially sustainable crop production strategies via stacking of biodiversity ecosystem services and bio-inspired tools for crop protection, within and around agricultural fields, in order enhance agro-ecosystems across Europe.

Working with Dr. Darren Evans, leader of Newcastle University’s Network Ecology Group, you will construct and analyse multilayer farmland species-interaction networks - created using DNA-metabarcoding approaches pioneered by the group - to understand the impacts of both in-crop and off-crop management interventions. You will collaborate with researchers at Rothamsted Research as well as key partners across Europe.

You will have a PhD (or be near completion) related to molecular/network ecology, and an outstanding publication track record. You will have experience of working cross-culturally within interdisciplinary teams and have good communication and strong computational and numeracy skills.

The University holds a silver Athena SWAN award in recognition of our good employment practices for the advancement of gender equality.  The University also holds the HR Excellence in Research award for our work to support the career development of our researchers, and is a member of the Euraxess initiative supporting researchers in Europe.

Please be advised that due to the minimum salary threshold of £30,000 per annum imposed by the UKVI, this post may not qualify for University sponsorship under Tier 2 of the points based system.

This is a  full-time, fixed term role, available for the duration of 4 years.

For informal enquiries please contact Dr.Darren Evans at darren.evans@ncl.ac.uk
