Faculty Fellow - Faculty of Medical Sciences (2x Posts) A125015R

Salary: £29,799 - £38,833
Closing Date: 14 June 2018
Interview Date: 09 July 2018

The Faculty of Medical Sciences is offering fellowships to future research leaders from around the world to develop their careers at Newcastle University. We invite applications from outstanding early post-doctoral scientists in any area covered by the Faculty including: Cellular and Genetic Medicine, Neuroscience, Cancer, Ageing and Chronic Disease, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Health and Society, Dentistry and Oral Health.

We are offering two year fellowships (with the possibility of an extension to three years, based on performance) to individuals at the earliest stage of their post-doctoral careers. The aim of these fellowships is to allow you to develop your publication record, and start to develop independence and a research niche with a view to making successful applications for external fellowships within the timescale of the fellowship. Financial support will include personal salary, and funds for consumables and travel, to allow you to produce pilot data for external applications, if necessary. You will also be provided with an independent career mentor.

You must have a PhD in the subject area (or expect to gain one before the start of the fellowship), a strong publication record, and be highly motivated and eligible for externally funded fellowship applications as appropriate to your level of research experience. Applicants are expected to identify a suitable staff member from within the Faculty to act as their academic sponsor.

Career breaks will be taken into account in determining eligibility. Flexible working is possible.

The University holds a Silver Athena Swan award in recognition of our good employment practices for women working in science and the HR Excellence in Research Award.

If you already have external funding that you can bring to Newcastle, we would welcome hearing from you.

Further information about our fellowships can be found at: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/medicalsciences/research/career-development/fellowship/#facultyfellowships

Please be advised that due to a new minimum salary threshold of £30,000 per annum imposed by the UKVI, this post may not qualify for University sponsorship under Tier 2 of the points based system.
